Four classes are held weekly - two beginners, an intermediate, and an advanced. Students attend the New Beginners class for three to four classes before moving to the Beginners. As the classes are participation based it means that it is a requirement to attend with a partner. If you have trouble finding a training partner please contact us.

The dojo primarily follows the syllabus of Osada-ry
ū, with Yukimura-ryū being taught predominately at higher levels. Osada-ryū has a series of kyū (grades), like in traditional Japanese martial arts. There are requirements to pass each level, with criteria including technical competency, speed and efficiency, flow, communication, and aesthetics. Each level teaches techniques and concepts that are then built upon in subsequent levels. The techniques taught are not designed for "tie and giggle" tying, but rather are building towards the students reaching a level of competency equivalent to that of a professional Japanese rope artists.

Because we follow the ky
ū structure where you move to the next level based on competency, it means that attendance can be flexible as there are no fixed terms and you can commence at any time. Please check the calendar for class dates and times, and send me an email when you are wanting to attend for the first time.

Private 1:1 tuition is also available, and is a valuable method of increasing your tying ability quickly.
